On 27 March 2019, Mr. Thawat Sumitmor, Acting Consul-General attended the Opening Ceremony of the "2019 Culture City of East Asia Xi'an Activity Year China" at the South Gate of Xi'an's City Wall, Shaanxi Province. In the Opening Ceremony, there were Mr. Zhang Xu, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of China / Mr. Hu Minglan, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province / Mr. Li Mingyuan, Mayor of Xi'an City / Mr. Ho Gunshik, Deputy Mayor of Incheon City, South Korea / Mr. Yukio Takano, Mayor of Toshima Ward, Tokyo, Japan / Mr. Shanben Gongsi, Deputy Secretary-General, Office of China-Japan-South Korea Cooperaion, delivered remarks.

Xi'an City has been chosen for the Culture City of East Asia, which is a good opportunity for the city to promote its image as 'New City', 'Global Cultural City' and 'Global Fashion Tourism City'. Moreover, it also help strengthen cultural connectivity among the countries on the BRI.
